About SMS
Based on MCMC policy, Telcos starts blocking repeating SMS /sms blasting messages primarily to prevent spam and protect users from potentially harmful or fraudulent content. They employ algorithms and filters to identify and block excessive or identical messages, particularly those associated with scam attempts or malicious links.
Here's a more detailed explanation:
- Spam Prevention:
- Telcos use various techniques to identify and block spam messages, including filtering based on content, sender, and sending patterns.
- Fraudulent Activity:
- Repeated SMS messages with URLs, requests for personal information, or suspicious content are often associated with scams or phishing attempts, which telcos aim to prevent.
- Consumer Protection:
- Blocking these messages helps protect users from unsolicited advertisements, potential malware, and financial scams.
- Network Efficiency:
- Excessive SMS traffic can impact network performance, so telcos may block or throttle excessive sending to ensure optimal service for all users.
- Regulatory Compliance:
- In some regions, like Malaysia, regulatory bodies have issued directives to telcos to block specific types of SMS content to combat online scams. For example, the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) has mandated blocking SMS messages with URL links, personal details, and phone numbers to prevent online scams.
Due to this implementation by telcos, it gave impact to our server sims which facing multiple times been barred without notice and causing sms service down unexpectedly.
Thus, to reduce our sims easily being barred without notice, we :-
1) Strictly standardize repeating sms alarm interval to change from 1hr to 2 hrs instead. Adjustment will be forcedly made if any sensor consistently out of limit set for another long interval while maintaining temperature limit set
2) Adjustment limit also will be considered if any sensor frequently can not maintain within the temp/humidity range.
3) Sensor that consistently shows 'sensor defect' and 'low voltage' and lead to repeating SMS also will be disabled temporarily.
Note:-
-->Email alarm interval is still keep maintaining to be every 1 hr as it is not controlled by MCMC.
-->User can install 'Textra' apps if need repeating sms notification.https://youtu.be/MEWLUseEPn8?si=PPjmtouQ73pRojZ6
